Pastor Travis Watson Sr. surrendered to preach in 1979, at the age of 33. He was attending Academy Road Independent Baptist Church in Walterboro, South Carolina. His pastor at that time was Brother Bruce Murray. Brother Murray is still preaching in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Pastor Watson told the Lord he would walk through the first door that was opened.
One night Pastor Watson received a call from a man he had led to the Lord, Larry Montieth. Pastor Watson was a produce manager and worked for Brother Larry in South Carolina. He told Pastor Watson about a work he knew about in Alaska. Pastor Watson and his family sold everything they had and moved to Alaska.
Pastor Watson and his family arrived in Eagle River, Alaska where he and his family worked for one year as teachers in an ACE School. At the end of that year, he bought a mobile home and began a church, Manna Independent Baptist Church, in Anchorage, Alaska. After three years he sold the mobile home and moved to Palmer, Alaska where he purchased an empty church building that had become available. In 1982 Pastor Watson, his wife, and four children moved into the basement of the Church and lived there for eight years. After they purchased and remodeled an apartment building, sold that and then built a new home and church, the current Manna Independent Baptist Church in it's current location on Palmer-Wasilla Highway, where he works to reach the souls in the community for Christ.
Pastor Watson and his family praise God for the work that has been done in Alaska. To God be the Glory! Manna wants to be a lighthouse to the Valley and reach souls for Christ. Pastor Watson has since retired on June 23, 2008 and he and Mrs. Gwen now live in Missouri where they care for her parents and are surrounded by family. Though Pastor Cardin and Mrs. Pattie has graciously taken over the work here at Manna as our new Pastor and wife, Palmer will never forget the faithful and obedient servants that gave their heart to the ministry for 29 years. Thank you Watson's and we will miss you and always love you!
Please pray for Pastor and Mrs. Watson!
"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein." ~Jer. 6:11
God Bless!
